Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s wedding was a lavish and grand affair in true Kapoor style with the festivities lasting for almost 20 days! It is also said that the both Rishi and Neetu endured fainting spells on the wedding day owing to the massive crowd of people turned up for the celebrations and the heavy outfits worn by them.
No one can forget the much hyped wedding of Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. This most expensive and much awaited wedding was rumored to have hired few helicopters just to shower petals over the reception which had an expansive guest list of over 5000 people.
Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra’s wedding was the most popular big fat Bollywood wedding in 2009. While Shilpa’s Swarovski crystal-embellished wedding outfit, is rumored to have cost Rs 50 lakh (5 million), her wedding jewelry is estimated to be worth Rs 3 crore (30 million). That is a 35 million worth bride! Another bit of trivia is that the Shetty – Kundra wedding cake was 9 tiers and weighed 80 kgs!
The wedding invitation of Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva was an extravagance in itself. The invite consisted of a jewelry box which held a Mughal Ganjifa painting, chocolates, a car pass, individual invites to the various functions, directions to the venue from all five star hotels in Bangalore, important information for outstation guests on whom to contact on alighting in Bangalore, phone numbers, car details, accommodation details, etc. The invites were entirely handmade and eco friendly costing about 7000 Indian rupees each!
Everyone aspires to give or receive the most unique gifts on the wedding day. One such unique gift was given by noted film director Satyajit Ray to Sharmila Tagore when she married the famous cricketer and Nawab of Pataudi, Mansur Ali Khan.
According to the biography of the late director penned by his wife, Sharmila received a 16 mm print of the feature film Apur Sansar starring her, as her wedding present. Apparently his son, Sandip Ray had quite a backache after carrying so many cans of films!
Sunil Shetty’s wedding present to his wife Mana was a BMW car with the words “BMW. BE MY WIFE.” written on the back.
Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap and his actress girlfriend Kalki Koechlin tied the knot in April 2011 in Ooty where the wedding ceremony took place under a 100-year old mango tree, the same one that Kalki used to climb on, as a child! We love that!
The guests attending the wedding of acclaimed bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar and Renu Namboodri in 2003, had never received any printed wedding invite from the couple. Interestingly, Madhur invited everyone through telephone calls and text messages and in a few cases through personal invitations.
